Old McDonald’s Farm Animals
Old McDonald’s Farm Animals is an app designed for children to help them learn animals, letters, and animal sounds. Children will be able to select from various animals. Each animal has animations such as eating and fetching. Each animal also has sounds related to the animal selected. Children will also be able to color a picture with the animal selected and save it to the devices photo library. From there they can email the picture or post it to Facebook. In addition to the various animal features children can also do a series of jigsaw puzzles.
How did Kwik help?
Kwik helped me every step of the way. My favorite design tool is Photoshop so to be able to utilize it to layout the application screens really simplified a big part of the process for me. My background is in design but with Kwik it was like having a code guru riding shotgun with me throughout the whole development of the app.
What are your favorite features?
EVERYTHING! I couldn’t be more grateful for this amazing software. What is so great about it is you learn so much as you are developing. If I had to choose some amazing features, I’d have to say the Set Canvas is awesome as well as all the Animations presets. (Bounce, Pulse, Linear Animations).
Any tips and tricks to share?
Yes…If you are new to developing mobile applications you must try Kwik. A phenomenal tool that must be tried by all. Something that I do that I recommend to anyone just starting to learn Lua and Corona is to test out various features in Kwik and publish it. Then open the created Lua files, print them out, and go thru each function & variable one by one. Learn how everything works together and before you know it you will have a complete understanding of the Lua language. Thanks to Kwik it made coding for mobile application less intimidating. I think Kwik brings the fun back into programming so you can focus on creating amazing apps.
Old McDonald’s Farm Animals is a cute educational app for toddlers. It is the first development for Michaele/Moonlight Creator Studios and it is, for sure, a good start. Mixing 3D with 2D images, bringing paint and puzzle activities, this app will make young users busy. I wish it had more animals to learn about and extend the playability time of the app. Maybe in the next update. Overall, nice job!
