Kwik allowed us to develop two children apps at the same time, both based on Corona for both iOS and Android. And that is amazing!

THE STORY BEHIND

Going to Playschool with Obie
Going to Playschool with Obie helps very young children develop their curiosity and creativity in familiar day-to-day surroundings.
An everyday event like a simple walk to the nursery is transformed into a journey of discovery. And on the way, they enjoy the company of Obie, a colorful and mischievous playmate. Together, your kids and Obie will always be on the lookout for new and exciting things to do.
Three to five-year olds gain a real sense of adventure. Simple games like hide-and-seek are combined with playful challenges. Where’s that nice dog we saw yesterday? How many balloons can you see today? Let’s pop them!
Opportunities to develop your children’s fantasy and imagination abound. Who would have thought that a skyscraper is also a musical instrument that they can play and create their own sounds?

Going to Playschool with Obie:
– Turns an everyday situation into a playful adventure
– Builds awareness, heightens discovery
– Stimulates fantasy and creativity
– Has fun-to-play games and challenges
– Introduces new best-friend Obie – always on hand to help!

From the producers of the highly-acclaimed Miny Moe Car and Brains My Body, Going to Playschool with Obie is the first in a series of Going to… apps for children. There’s no stress or high scores to beat, no inapp purchases and no third-party advertising.

Just a new adventure every time you go out. “Can we go now?”.

Available now for iPhone & iPad, soon coming to the Amazon Appstore.

How did Kwik help?

For me as a graphic designer and animator it was amazing to be able to build the app myself. I don’t say that it was a easy journey, I had to learn a lot of stuff and some nights I was really scratching my head to figure stuff out. The cool thing is that you are inside a software package that you know very well (Photoshop) but at the same time it’s something totally different, expanded and mutated. Very cool.

What are your favorite features?

We have the good fortune to have talented programmers. It was amazing how easy it was for them to take the generated lua code and expand the app to greater heights. For example they made the soccer game multi touch something I couldn’t figure out for myself.

I really enjoy the physics and the copy paste action function between different pages.

In general it allowed us to develop two children apps at the same time, both based on Corona for both iOS and Android. And that is amazing!

Any tips and tricks to share?

Have a good wireframe and plan your app. I can not stress this issue enough it really helps. Bone everything out on paper first from interactions to what things should be animated in say After Effects.

Use Texture Packer & Physics Editor from Codeandweb and PNG Quant, they saved and helped me many many times.

Alex’s Review

Going to Playschool with Obie is a funny set of games for children. It mixes the story telling of Obie going to school (while going there, (s)he(?) discovers different places), with several activities that include soccer games, music playing and more. I liked the this “new category” of app made with Kwik and I am excited to check the sequels of the series “Obie goes to…”.
