Update on Kwik and other things…

First of all, I would like to share my discomfort with the lack of updates on Kwik. Many of you are patiently (other not so much :)) waiting for the Storyboard integration that seems never get alive from Corona Labs. The last info I have says it is coming in a near Daily Build (meaning only Corona Pro users will get access to it first). Unfortunately no dates are set for that yet. The good news is Corona just released their latest Public Build (2013.2076) and, probably they will work the beta testing of the new Storyboard in the next daily builds. Fingers crossed! Although I can’t do much about…

Kwik “Next” update: current apps in need!

Dear all, As you know already, I am working on Kwik’s next major release  – more here – and the first step is to keep compatibility with current apps. One of the major changes in the background is to move to Corona Labs’, under development at this moment, new scene/page management system (one of the reasons I cannot start the beta program now). Saying that, I am re-publishing all the demos I have to check if the new code works as expected and, I need your help to check what “real people” are doing with Kwik. If you have a project following the requirement list below, let me know: Your…

What is in the future for Kwiksher?

Now that everybody knows the news (in case you were disconnected last week, take a look at our big announcement), I think it is important to clarify some topics and provide a glimpse of the things in our pipe for the future months. First of all, I would like to reinforce my happiness in having both David and Carlos on board. More than good friends, they share the same vision I have for the future. Their arrival also means Kwiksher is in the right path to fulfill my goal in providing tools to creative people, enabling them to bring their stories to life. In sum, it is a recognition that together, you, the user, and…

Version 2.5, ending of support for Kwik 1 and Kwik “Next”

Today I am releasing version 2.5, which brings several improvements and new features for sprite sheet use, Android deployment and several others, mostly coming from your suggestions thru the forums. Thanks for helping to shape Kwik! Taking advantage of this posting, I would like to make a few other announcements: End of support for Kwik 1 Starting now, support for Kwik 1 is officially ended. The number of Kwik 1 users is too low at this moment and requests of support are very rare (most users migrated to Kwik 2 or stopped to use Kwik 1). Also, it has been 9 months since the latest update. Adding to it, several…

Migrating from Kwik 1

With the upcoming release of Kwik 2 on September 18th, you may be asking how compatible is the new plugin with the current one. This post tries to clarify some anxieties 🙂 As I briefly mentioned in a previous post, Kwik 2 brings several new features that are not compatible with Kwik (you cannot create a project in Kwik 2 and expect to import/work it back in Kwik 1). Also, due its focus on full apps (not comics), some features available in Kwik are not available in Kwik 2. Let’s talk about what is NOT available in Kwik 2: Comics: some of you already know that Kwik 1 can create…

Floating Fun by Greg Pugh is the first Storybook Created using Kwik 2

Please welcome Greg Pugh, author of The Perfect Pillow (also made with Kwik) and a Kwik 2 alpha tester. His new storybook, Floating Fun, was made entirely using Kwik 2. This creative storybook app is currently waiting for approval in both Amazon and Apple’s App Stores – we will have links to share as soon as they are available. Learn more about Floating Fun and Greg’s journey as an author, illustrator and Kwik user. Enjoy! My name is Greg Pugh, I’m the creator of the Colin Turtle book series. My interest in children’s book writing came from the fact that my wife and I knew we wanted to start a…

Useful Data from Kids and Apps: A New Era of Play

One of the questions developers always ask is “How much should I charge for my App?” especially given the fact that the current trend towards the freemium/in-app purchases pricing model is so popular right now. I thought this information might be useful for Kwik users and all App developers in general. Earlier today the NPD Group released results from their latest report “Kids and Apps: A New Era of Play“. Here is a snippet from the press release: App Purchasing and Purchase Intent While gaming applications are the apps most frequently paid for (35 percent) followed closely by educational game and movie apps, most of the apps downloaded to devices…

App of the Week Honors for Sparky The Shark, Kwik Showcase and more…

This past week saw our old friend Sparky the Shark recognized by the team at Ansca as the App of the Week. I am very excited that Mark Newell and the rest of the team at Biscuit Interactive won this award because of the incredible work and time devoted to this excellent app. The talent and passion on display in this interactive storybook really brought Sparky to life. Kwik, Photoshop and Corona just helped get the app to the finish line and that includes being available for purchase on the App Store and Google Play. I invite you to check out Sparky the Shark, use it as a benchmark to…
