Getting ready to take-off: Showcase, new tutorial and other updates

Showcase: Since we announced the Kwik Showcase,  3 new storybook apps were added: Frederik Spin, tell us the story of a little spider who loves to create webs using gorgeous illustrations; Hello World Idodo’s Dreamy Adventure, allow us to travel with the little Idodo around the world; Oho the Monkey, brings us to the jungle to meet their friends. In all the cases above, no external code was added (pure Kwik apps as I like to say), confirming that Kwik can do its job no matter the experience of its users. Here goes Sparky again! This week Ansca’s announced Sparky the Shark as App of the Month (May) which is…

App of the Week Honors for Sparky The Shark, Kwik Showcase and more…

This past week saw our old friend Sparky the Shark recognized by the team at Ansca as the App of the Week. I am very excited that Mark Newell and the rest of the team at Biscuit Interactive won this award because of the incredible work and time devoted to this excellent app. The talent and passion on display in this interactive storybook really brought Sparky to life. Kwik, Photoshop and Corona just helped get the app to the finish line and that includes being available for purchase on the App Store and Google Play. I invite you to check out Sparky the Shark, use it as a benchmark to…

Happy 1st Anniversary Kwik!

As you have probably noticed, in celebration of our 1-year Anniversary we have launched our new site… and that’s just the beginning! When I think back, it is hard to imagine that it has been only a year since I launched Kwiksher and its first product: Kwik – a revolutionary Photoshop plugin that levels the app-development playing field, enabling everyone from first-timers to professional designers to build mobile apps and interactive storybooks quickly and easily without the need for coding skills. At the time I was pretty confident the product would be a success, but honestly, I never imagined it would be so well received. Especially when I look back…

Results from the past surveys: monetization and new interface

In the past weeks many of you were very kind providing feedback and sharing information. Saying that, I think it is nice from my side to share the results of the past 2 surveys. Hope you see some value here! Monetization 82 users responded the survey about monetization. 3 questions were asked: Have you published a paid app/storybook with Kwik? If so, how much did you earn? 20 users answered yes. Only one of the respondents made more than $1,000 in sales. Another one made more than $500, and 18 earned less than $500 since launch. The third question for me was the most important one: Did you market your…

Update on K2

If you follow Kwik in Twitter (@kwiksher) or Facebook (/kwiksher) you know already that development keeps going. In fact, I have even provided a glimpse in a previous post. The aim of today’s update is to give you more info on current progresses. So, before asking “when the new version will be available”, keep in mind that we are still months (in plural ) away from K2. The list below includes only things that are already coded and tested (there are lots of other stuff to come): Ability to include video, web, map, text input, vectors, dynamic text, and more as replacements; Export module was re-written and it is much…

New iPad projects or not?

The new iPad is here and it’s Retina screen is really great (I have mine in hands at this moment). The big question now is: should you build your projects or not for the new device? Wait before simply answer “Of course!”. You will see the answer is not that simple. Let’s start with some facts first: – due the size and resolution of the screen, your projects will grow (average) 3x in size; – only 6% of the iPad market is running the new device at this moment; – projects made for the old iPads will automatically be re-scaled by iOS 5.1, with no need of rewriting code (you…

Interview with Miss Pivot

Today I like to share my chat with the Miss Pivot team, creators of Fire Cupid, an amazing app made partially with Kwik. Enjoy! How did Kwik help you to build it? Any favorite features? We needed a way to build animations / interactions in to our infographics. Since we design everything in Photoshop, it was really nice to animate everything from there. Our favorite feature ending up being the built in animation effects. We found the animations and interactions to work the same on both iPad and Android devices. Any trick/tip you would like to share? I found that sometimes things don’t work they way you think they will….

Interview with Ed Dalbello

This week my chat is with Ed, from JuluMedia, designer of “The Bunny with a crooked ear” and “The Star that felt from heaven”. I believe Ed is also the first Kwik user to use the multi-language feature! Congratulations Ed for making two apps almost simultaneously! Tell a little bit about you and your company? JuluMedia.com is actually a merge of two passions. The first is a passion for my two daughters, Julie and Louise (JuLu), for which I made several stories for them when they were little. The second is a desire to help children and work with compassion ministry. I work as volunteer for a great US Christian…
