Understanding the Sync feature

Few weeks ago I blogged about how to use the Sync feature (new in version 1.7). Since them I got several feedbacks for improvements, which will come with release 1.8 (at this moment a few users are testing it). They are: better highlight (not blinking as the current version anymore); option to define if the language used reads from left to right (default) or right to left (this is critical for languages like Arabic and Japanese, for example); I would like to take the opportunity also to clarify a few things while using this feature: the text layer is exported as text, not as an image. It means that the positioning and format will NOT be the same as you see in your Photoshop composition….

What is coming?

Few weeks ago I released another survey to understand Kwik’s users and their most required needs. Lots of things have changed since the previous research in August. For example, now, almost 90% of the users are using the plugin for more than a month. Almost 27% of them are using Kwik to build an app (not a storybook). 44% are not coming from Ansca’s premises anymore (the news are spreading from word of mouth), and most of the users are from outside the United States. Path animation is the favorite current feature and several apps are going to be released in the next weeks. However, most people probably want to know the missing feature list (38 users answered this open question). The results helped me…

Good news…

First of all, I would like to apologize for spamming your inbox last Saturday. When I figured out that Path Animation couldn’t handle Sprite Sheets or Movie Clips, I promptly decide to re-write all affected modules to make this great new feature ready for all kinds of scenarios. Having in mind the amount of lines of code to re-write, my decision was to keep you posted that version 1.6 would be postponed and that previous projects should not be compatible anymore. Shame on me! With a fresh mind, I could re-write everything during the Sunday, and get the Beta ready for a few great testers. They have been great helping me to find/fix bugs, also providing suggestions that have improved even more the Path Animation…

Just an update

As you could see from the previous post, we are already working on the next release of our plugin. Your suggestions and our own list of desired features, have kept us very busy. The survey some of you answered, clearly defined the top 4 priorities we should focus on (I am excluding the Page Curl effect as it needs Ansca’s work) for the next releases. They were: In-app purchase Multi-language projects Path animations Random actions Let me share where we are on these topics: In-app purchase: we moved this to version 1.7 or later, mostly due the fact Corona does not offer this option for Android yet. Although Android is not the top platform for the majority of our customers, it is important to have…

Sneak preview and Morris Lessmore

If you, like me, is also a fan of The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris (by Moonbot Studios), one of the most successful iPad books, you are in love with the interactions present in the app. One of my favorites is the spinning house (you rotate the house with your finger): With Kwik 1.6 already cooking, I got the sample code from ChunkyApps (available at the Sample Code are from Ansca’s website) and integrate it in the upcoming version. Check the first sneak preview: Cool, no? More about the next release in the next days. Alex

Timers, Widgets and launch date

This post closes the review on version 1.5, which will be launched on August, 10th. At this moment, a few users are beta testing the updated plugin. The day of the launch will be also the day introductory price ends. If you haven’t bought Kwik yet, it is time now to get it with the current price. Last June (less than 2 months ago) we surveyed 50 people about the features they expected most in future releases: We are proud to report that we delivered some of them with old updates (more actions per button, better demos and auto handling of layer names). Version 1.5 however is an answer to the other ones. For example, the new animation interface is much faster than the previous…

Kwik is included in Corona bits

With today’s announcement of the new Corona SDK version, we would like to congratulate Ansca’s team for the great milestone. Although most features of the updated version of Corona are more focused to game developers (multiplayer, ads, cloud services, etc), some small ones are very applicable to Kwik, like the ability to preview iOS projects on the Windows Simulator. However, for us at Kwiksher, the most important feature of this new version is not into the bits, but in a folder called Tools. Yes, Kwik is included in the official installer from Ansca! Being small and young company, we are very proud to be one of the three companies invited and we thank them for this great opportunity. Lastly, as I personally know Carlos reads…

Update on version 1.5

With version 1.5 almost done (yes, we are working till late hours every day, including weekends), I would like to update you on what is coming, and when. Well, let’s start with the when. Our expectation is to deliver beta bits to a few customers next weekend. The moment they receive it, we are going to start to write the first Kwik Manual. This little baby is growing faster than we expected and we cannot keep using just the tutorial videos as the only learning tool anymore. With the bits being tested, we are going to send the newsletter, and end the introductory price – meaning you still have this week to buy Kwik with the introductory price. So, let’s talk about the new features….
