Introducing Kaboom. Particle Creation for Kwik.

Few weeks ago I announced the Particle Replacement feature, compatible with the great Particle Design 2 (PD2) tool. With the announcement, several people sent me emails telling they were not on a Mac, they did not need all the options from PD2 or they simply needed a way to edit/create particles from inside Kwik. So, I went back to the drawing board and decided to create something different. Introducing Kaboom, the first plugin for Kwik Kaboom is a particle creator/editor plugin, specifically designed for use with Kwik. It is compatible with JSON encoded format, meaning you will be able to edit particles created with PD2, for example. Kaboom requires Corona build 2014.2214 or up…

Introducing Kwik 2 Beta

Few days ago, in a private session for paid users, I introduced Kwik 2 Beta. Today, I am pretty excited to public announce the beta availability to any user. This is a huge milestone till the official launch date, coming this fall. What is coming? Physics is a major thing in the new version but, don’t be fooled: Kwik 2 is much more than that. In fact, the plugin was re-written almost entirely. Besides the new interface, several improvements and additions are coming due your feedback. Honestly, there are so many new features that is hard to find the most important ones. Below my top 5 list: 1) New interface:…

New iPad projects or not?

The new iPad is here and it’s Retina screen is really great (I have mine in hands at this moment). The big question now is: should you build your projects or not for the new device? Wait before simply answer “Of course!”. You will see the answer is not that simple. Let’s start with some facts first: – due the size and resolution of the screen, your projects will grow (average) 3x in size; – only 6% of the iPad market is running the new device at this moment; – projects made for the old iPads will automatically be re-scaled by iOS 5.1, with no need of rewriting code (you…

Quick chat with Richard Smith

Today I talk to Richard, from Clarence-Henry Books, author and illustrator of Rudy and Cirrus of Karma, another beautiful storybook made with Kwik and available at the Android Marketplace. Somehow a new user of Kwik, Richard was pretty fast learning, creating and publish his first app with the plugin. Enjoy! Interviewing New Mindflow

Today I am talking with Rares and Anamaria, from New Mindflow, authors of the beautiful Where’s Paradise, another app made with Kwik. As you are going to see below, I really think this documentary can open your eyes for what we think paradise is. Anyways, enjoy! Alex) Tell a little bit about you and your companyWe’re a team of two film-makers/photographers, Rares Kovesdi and Anamaria Chioveanu. After graduating from film school in 2008 we discovered mobile apps as a potentially great medium to distribute our work and explore new possibilities for storytelling and new audiences. It presented itself as a good opportunity to create and distribute our work outside the…

Interview with Sabrina Costa

This week I had the pleasure to talk to Sabrina, from RSC Development, author of “Preserve”, an iOS app made with Kwik for the Brazilian market. Enjoy! Learnings from 2011

Happy New Year to you all! In this first posting of the year I would like to share the 6 top learnings I had while developing/improving Kwik. Hope you enjoy and provide your comments (agreeing or disagreeing): 6. DON’T UNDERESTIMATE YOUR PRODUCT As I mentioned in my first post at this site (Why the world needs Kwik?), the original idea for Kwik was much far from what the current product is. Honestly, although I was expecting to get success with the plugin, I was not expecting the huge amount of users in just few weeks. Fact is, I underestimate the product I was building. Suddenly I had to review my…

Holiday’s gift!

First of all, I sincerely wish you are having a great holiday’s days and an amazing 2012! For me, 2011 was an interesting year, with Kwik reaching downloads that I never expected when I stated to code it. Thanks to you all, the product is maturing and (I hope) getting better and better each version. Due your support and recent comments that your apps are sometimes bigger than you expected (especially for Android markets), I decided to give you a end of year gift with version 1.8.1 (just uploaded): a new feature under the Tools panel, called Export layer as JPG. Any time you have a layer that does not…
