Migrating from Kwik 1

With the upcoming release of Kwik 2 on September 18th, you may be asking how compatible is the new plugin with the current one. This post tries to clarify some anxieties 🙂 As I briefly mentioned in a previous post, Kwik 2 brings several new features that are not compatible with Kwik (you cannot create a project in Kwik 2 and expect to import/work it back in Kwik 1). Also, due its focus on full apps (not comics), some features available in Kwik are not available in Kwik 2. Let’s talk about what is NOT available in Kwik 2: Comics: some of you already know that Kwik 1 can create…

Contest Winners Announcement

Last week we received the last batch of submissions for the first Kwik+Corona Labs+Code and Web contest. In total, 15 submissions, from children storybooks (the majority), to comics, adult storybook and games. Overall, great projects, making all of us very excited. Thank you very much for the submissions! Also, my kindest words to David and Inna from Corona Labs, and Andreas, from Code and Web! The following topics were evaluated to select the winners: Originality; Quality of illustrations; Story (for game or storybook); Use of Kwik 2 native features; Estimated time for publishing in, at least, one major store (as Kwik 2 is coming just in a few days, we…

Please welcome Greg Pugh, author of The Perfect Pillow (also made with Kwik) and a Kwik 2 alpha tester. His new storybook, Floating Fun, was made entirely using Kwik 2. This creative storybook app is currently waiting for approval in both Amazon and Apple’s App Stores – we will have links to share as soon as they are available. Learn more about Floating Fun and Greg’s journey as an author, illustrator and Kwik user. Enjoy! My name is Greg Pugh, I’m the creator of the Colin Turtle book series. Introducing Kwik 2 Beta

Few days ago, in a private session for paid users, I introduced Kwik 2 Beta. Today, I am pretty excited to public announce the beta availability to any user. This is a huge milestone till the official launch date, coming this fall. What is coming? Physics is a major thing in the new version but, don’t be fooled: Kwik 2 is much more than that. In fact, the plugin was re-written almost entirely. Besides the new interface, several improvements and additions are coming due your feedback. Honestly, there are so many new features that is hard to find the most important ones. Below my top 5 list: 1) New interface:…

Getting ready to take-off: Showcase, new tutorial and other updates

Showcase: Since we announced the Kwik Showcase,  3 new storybook apps were added: Frederik Spin, tell us the story of a little spider who loves to create webs using gorgeous illustrations; Hello World Idodo’s Dreamy Adventure, allow us to travel with the little Idodo around the world; Oho the Monkey, brings us to the jungle to meet their friends. In all the cases above, no external code was added (pure Kwik apps as I like to say), confirming that Kwik can do its job no matter the experience of its users. Here goes Sparky again! This week Ansca’s announced Sparky the Shark as App of the Month (May) which is…

New Kwik Showcase ‘The Snow Queen’ and the Kwik Showcase Submission Form…

We’ve added a new app to the Kwik Showcase, The Snow Queen. This gorgeous app, which is based on the classic fairytale by Hans Christian Anderson, was developed by Sunshine Musicals. This musical storybook adventure comes to life with 5 original, fully orchestral, kid-friendly, songs performed by professional singers and includes sing-a-long text so that you and your child can join in the fun! Beyond the terrific songs, the storybook includes beautiful animated illustrations throughout – ladies and gentlemen, this is yet another “Kwik made” app done right! Congratulations to you Laura for the excellent app you created ! I highly recommend that everyone, young and old, buy this app today – it is…

Useful Data from Kids and Apps: A New Era of Play

One of the questions developers always ask is “How much should I charge for my App?” especially given the fact that the current trend towards the freemium/in-app purchases pricing model is so popular right now. I thought this information might be useful for Kwik users and all App developers in general. Earlier today the NPD Group released results from their latest report “Kids and Apps: A New Era of Play“. Here is a snippet from the press release: App Purchasing and Purchase Intent While gaming applications are the apps most frequently paid for (35 percent) followed closely by educational game and movie apps, most of the apps downloaded to devices…
