Introducing the Asset Store

Do you have a nice song track or sprite sheet asset that could help others? Maybe you developed a nice external code that some Kwik users would love to have as well? Introducing the new Asset Store! Now you can sell your own creations and get some money back from your development time! Check the video above to learn how to become a vendor and sell your assets. You will get 70% of the price you set, while Kwiksher gets 30% to cover the processing fees. The idea behind the Asset Store is to help creators to make some money (besides the app sales and/or advertisements) but also help consumers to…

Introducing Kwik 3.2

Kwik 3.2 is here! Today I would like to introduce Kwik 3.2. This update brings some nice additions including: an easy way to create infinity scrolling (you can use it for backgrounds or any king of layers), as I have shown few weeks ago in this tutorial; a new message system integrated in the plugin that will allow Kwiksher to send you special promotions and announcements. As many people asks for a way to “never leave Photoshop”, this is one of our answers 🙂 an integrated way to renew subscriptions from inside the tool; Particle Replacement, a new option that allows you to import particles created by Particle Designer 2 into…

Preparing for the future

I would like to provide a quick update on what is happening here at Kwiksher. Website: As you may have noticed, my main focus (especially now that Kwik 3 is pretty stable) in May was (and still is) to fix the issues with the newest website. It is really nice visually but performance is still far from what I expect. I have changed the hosting provider and I will do it again today because the performance is still not acceptable. I am sorry for this inconvenience but, without this important infrastructure milestone, I will not be able to bring some really important news in the next days. Kwik: Due the issues…

Kwiksher’s New Shop Experience

After much work and sweat, the new website is finished, including a totally new shop experience, which includes access to your past orders as well. See the presentation video below and learn what is new: Are you having problems with the new site? For some users the new site sometimes cannot load pages or returns a php error. I am working with our provider to handle it as soon as possible. Meanwhile, just refresh the empty/error page and the right page will load fine. Sorry for this inconvenience. Did you like it?

Corona Composer GUI: do you need it? Check thoughts and the tutorial

Last week Corona Labs announced their new tool, yet in a beta stage, called Composer GUI (graphics user interface), which is pretty cool, by the way. If you haven’t seen it, check their blog. Minutes later, I received an email from a Kwik user asking about how it would change Kwik’s positioning for the future. You can read about my entire thoughts below but, in a few words, I would like to say that Composer GUI targets a different audience than Kwik. To clarify that, I decided to make a homage to Corona Labs, reproducing their demo in Kwik. See and take your own conclusions: A Threat Or An Opportunity? First of…

Crossing the Chasm with Mobile Apps

Reading my emails this morning, I was surprised with a particular one coming from Moglue, a long time competitor of Kwik. After three years promoting and selling their DYI (do it yourself) storybook tool, they just announced they are closing the business due lack of continued funding (according CrunchBase, Moglue has received a total of $990K in the period of 2 years). Although  the announcement is really surprising (I wish Kwiksher had the almost $1M in investment as well), there are a few indications happening in the market at this moment that may explain some of their reasons. Just to make things clear, my words below are just assumptions as…

Are the basics of marketing being applied to the app business?

Some of you may know already I spent 11 years working, mostly at marketing positions, at Microsoft. Although the topic is not my passion, I can say I have learned a “thing or two” there. Disclaimer made, the answer for this topic’s question is “for the majority of publishers, the answer is NO”! Marketing 101 A quick search at Wikipedia will tell you that marketing is the process of communicating the value of a product or service to customers, for the purpose of selling/promote the product or service. The marketing geniuses agree on the basic principle that 4 “Ps” are the key concept for marketing anything (mobile apps included). The Ps…
