Early Preview Kwik4

Kwik4 does not change UI at all. You can continue to use current kwik3 project files.  No need to uninstall Kwik3 either. When a new project is created, you find ‘tmplt‘ folder there.  Now build folder is named as ‘build4′ when you publish a project. If you copy ‘tmplt‘ folder to your kwik3 project, you can use Kwik4 to publish your kwik3 project. build4 folder is newly  structured. Each layer on photoshop is published to a single lua file. For instance, Hello_World layer is published to components/page01/Hello_World_image_.lua Template File Let me explain how kwik publishes a lua file. If you press publish button, Kwik internally process each layer with your project(.kwk) and generates images and lua files.  Kwik4 reads the following template files while publishing lua files….

Kwiksher under new management. Last days to purchase Kwik in 2014!

Starting today, Kwiksher is under new management. Today, September 2, 2014, Naoya Yamamoto has acquired Kwiksher from Alex Souza. With customers around the world, Kwiksher was founded in 2011 and was based in Coral Springs, FL. Under the new management, the operation will be transferred to Tokyo, Japan. Yamamoto started his carrier as a software engineer at Fujitsu and since then has worked in several projects for companies including Hi Corp, Catalystmobile Inc and Neos Corp. He co-authored a Japanese Corona SDK book in 2012, which includes lots of information about Kwik. “I am very excited to build up the legacy Alex has left with his vision and hard work with Kwik, Kutt and Kaboom. I sincerely wish him the best in his new endeavors”, said the…

Alex’s Farewell

This is my last posting as owner of Kwiksher. It is also the most difficult post I have ever written. As you have heard in this week announcement, Kwiksher has been acquired by Naoya Yamamoto, a developer and long time Kwik user from Japan. However, I could not leave the company I created and spent the best days of my career in the past 3 years or so, without sharing a few words with you, who became, more than customers, good friends. When I created Kwik, I set a mission to change the way people create and experience stories in digital media. Hundreds of non-technical people were able to share their stories, creating storybooks and games, without needing to learn code. I am really proud of that,…

Will iOS8 Be A Game Changer?

More and more we see the news about the upcoming iOS8. Magazines and bloggers are excited about its new features and curious to discover what developers will do with the new APIs. Add to that the arrival of a new iPhone (here we go again with different screen sizes/ratios) and we are going to have topics to chat for a while. It is not my intention to discuss the beta features, although I am very interest to check Continuity for sure. I will not discuss either the new APIs, after all Corona hasn’t provided any word on what will be added to their arsenal or not. So, you may be asking: “what is this posting about”? I decided to share an article that I just read yesterday at the American’s MacWorld…

Introducing Kaboom. Particle Creation for Kwik.

Few weeks ago I announced the Particle Replacement feature, compatible with the great Particle Design 2 (PD2) tool. With the announcement, several people sent me emails telling they were not on a Mac, they did not need all the options from PD2 or they simply needed a way to edit/create particles from inside Kwik. So, I went back to the drawing board and decided to create something different. Introducing Kaboom, the first plugin for Kwik Kaboom is a particle creator/editor plugin, specifically designed for use with Kwik. It is compatible with JSON encoded format, meaning you will be able to edit particles created with PD2, for example. Kaboom requires Corona build 2014.2214 or up (attention: it is not clear yet if Corona will make the particles feature available in…

Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 Launch

Copyright: Adobe Adobe Creative Cloud 2014 Announcement Adobe just announced their Creative Cloud update (called CC 2014), which includes lots of new features in all product lines, including Photoshop. Although people, myself included, will be very excited with the new gizmos, one thing was left behind in the announcement (or at least was barely touched): ALL Photoshop plugins for CS5, CS6 and CC will NOT be compatible with the new product. Adobe decided to remove all Flash integration (plugin panels were written in ActionScript) in exchange of new HTML/CSS/Javascript made ones. This means that vendors like Kwiksher will be required to write different versions of their products for each product. This is not a simple/easy task for a plugin like Kwik, specially if you add…

Introducing the Asset Store

Do you have a nice song track or sprite sheet asset that could help others? Maybe you developed a nice external code that some Kwik users would love to have as well? Introducing the new Asset Store! Now you can sell your own creations and get some money back from your development time! Check the video above to learn how to become a vendor and sell your assets. You will get 70% of the price you set, while Kwiksher gets 30% to cover the processing fees. The idea behind the Asset Store is to help creators to make some money (besides the app sales and/or advertisements) but also help consumers to speed up their development/design time with great assets that they couldn’t do by themselves. The…

Introducing Kwik 3.2

Kwik 3.2 is here! Today I would like to introduce Kwik 3.2. This update brings some nice additions including: an easy way to create infinity scrolling (you can use it for backgrounds or any king of layers), as I have shown few weeks ago in this tutorial; a new message system integrated in the plugin that will allow Kwiksher to send you special promotions and announcements. As many people asks for a way to “never leave Photoshop”, this is one of our answers 🙂 an integrated way to renew subscriptions from inside the tool; Particle Replacement, a new option that allows you to import particles created by Particle Designer 2 into Kwik. Check this tutorial to see how it works. Super Promo!! In order to celebrate…
